Dice4Ben is a dice-roller and roleplay character sheet management program for the role-playing game Earthdawn.
Unlike most dice rollers around, Dice4Ben reads your full character sheet. You can thus roll dices for any of your character’s tests, talents, skills or spells instantly with no need to check your character sheet for step details. Dice4Ben Earthdawn also keeps track of wounds, bonus or penalties automatically.
First, you need to encode your Character Sheet in a text file (see picture below – a template is included in all Dice4Ben downloads). This is a simple text file that you can edit text editor such as Notepad or Notepad++. In the file, you can enter your whole Character Sheet and save it in the Player Config Files folder of Dice4Ben Earthdawn. You can have as many character sheets as you need. You can also open as many instances of Dice4Ben as required – this is crucial for Game Masters who need to have several characters opened in front of them at the same time!
When you launch Dice4Ben Earthdawn, you are prompted to select your Character Sheet.
Once you’ve done the above, you can trow dices for any of your talents easily. Your character talents will be grouped by characteristics type (e.g. all dexterity talents will be under the “Dexterity” tab.
For added speed, you can group frequently used Talents, Skills and Spells under “Combos”. For example, you can build you typically Fight combo with talents such as Initiative, Attack, Damages (or any spells). This allows you to handle fights very quickly and smoothly. Of course, you can still go to the other tabs if you need to use one of your special Talents you rarely need to use
And that’s it! Well at least for throwing dices. You can also keep track of all your character stats throughout the game (this is why you have plenty of small spinners to keep track of bonuses and maluses!).
First thing you need is a computer! Most players use small netbooks that you can get for cheap off ebay. System requirements are minimal. You can have a decent experience usign a simple Atom 1 Ghz with 512 memory. No need for advanced graphics.
Dice4Ben Earthdawn works on most systems where java can be installed.
